Guardian trip for budding journalists
Posted: 12th February 2018Budding journalists made the front page when they visited the Guardian newspaper.
Year 6 pupils from Little Parndon Primary Academy took a trip to the London newsroom of the national tabloid.
Reporters and sub-editors talked the 60 pupils through the process of putting a newspaper together, explaining how to gather and write stories and design pages.
During a workshop, pupils put together their own newspaper front pages and were challenged to complete their work to a tight deadline.
The trainee reporters researched and wrote stories focusing on science and the environment, before sub-editing the articles, writing headlines, selecting images and completing their pages.
Jayne Lilley, lead practitioner, said: “Visiting the Guardian newspaper was amazing for the children.
“Visits like this give real meaning to what children are learning at school. They have been so inspired by their day at the Guardian that pupils are now keen to launch their own school newspaper.”
