lockdown PE earns award
Posted: 6th July 2020Our work to keep children active at home during lockdown has been recognised with a national award.
Pupils at Little Parndon Primary Academy have continued to take part in PE sessions, despite the Coronavirus crisis seeing the majority learning from home.
The school’s PE team have continued to provide active lessons for those children attending school and set weekly virtual challenges for those not on site.
As a result, the school has not only retained the School Games Mark Gold award for the fourth year, but has also secured the School Games Virtual Award.
PE teacher Jeremias Odebode said: “Our aim has been to make sure that even though we are in a global pandemic, children should still be able to access good quality PE sessions. With the help of a strong PE team, we have been able to facilitate the great things we do and want to continue doing.”
The school is part of the Harlow School Games and each year takes part in a range of sporting competitions in the town.
The work has seen the school secure the School Games Mark Gold award for four years, qualifying it to now apply for the Platinum award.
The School Games is a programme designed to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools and provide young people with opportunities to compete and achieve their personal best.
The School Games Mark rewards schools for commitment to and development of competition, school sport and physical education.
Headteacher Mark Evans said: “The PE team have been brilliant in the work they have done for our children this year and in lockdown. Our PE provision is going from strength to strength.”
