Year 4 Explore Roman Britain at Colchester Castle!

Year 4 Explore Roman Britain at Colchester Castle!

Posted: 15th January 2025

Our Year 4 pupils had an amazing day stepping back in time as they visited Colchester Castle to deepen their learning about the Romans! The trip brought history to life, perfectly complementing the work they have been doing in the classroom.

During the visit, the children explored the castle’s interactive exhibits, handled real and replica Roman artefacts, and even had the chance to experience what life was like in Roman Britain. A highlight of the day was descending into the castle’s underground Roman vaults, where they learned about the fortress that once stood on the same site nearly 2,000 years ago.

Mrs. Hynes, Year 4 Teacher, said:
"Seeing the children so engaged and excited about history was fantastic. They asked brilliant questions and were able to make strong connections between what they’ve learned in class and the real artefacts and stories they encountered at the castle."

The visit not only helped pupils consolidate their understanding of the Romans but also sparked new curiosity and enthusiasm for history. The children returned to school buzzing with new facts, stories, and inspiration for their upcoming history work.

A Big Thank You!

A huge thank you to our staff, pupils, and the fantastic team at Colchester Castle for making this such an enriching experience. We can’t wait to see how this trip inspires our pupils' future learning!
