Online Safety

At Little Parndon Primary Academy, the safety and well-being of our pupils are our top priorities, and this extends to their online activities. The internet is a dynamic and valuable resource for learning and entertainment, but it is crucial that our pupils are equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate it safely and responsibly.

Our Commitment to Online Safety

We are committed to fostering a safe online environment for our students. This involves educating them about the potential risks associated with internet use and teaching them how to protect themselves from harm. Our comprehensive e-safety curriculum is designed to empower students to make informed decisions, recognise dangers, and act responsibly online.

Regular Updates and Resources

To keep up with the ever-evolving digital landscape, this page is updated regularly with useful e-safety resources. We encourage parents and carers to explore these resources and discuss online safety with their children.

E-Safety Resources

  • Understanding TikTok: Learn about the measures TikTok is taking to curb dangerous challenges. Read more on TikTok takes extra steps to curb dangerous challenges - BBC News.
  • Gurls Out Loud - Blocking Online Abuse: A valuable resource for young girls to learn how to block and report online abuse. Visit Gurls Out Loud.
  • Staying SMART: Childnet's series of six short videos based on the SMART rules, which parents can use to discuss a range of online safety issues with their children. You can view all of the videos HERE.
  • Thinkuknow: An education programme from NCA-CEOP, a UK organization dedicated to protecting children both online and offline. Visit Thinkuknow.
  • UK Safer Internet Centre: Provides numerous helpful tips and videos on how to stay safe online. Visit UK Safer Internet Centre.
  • NSPCC Online Safety: Offers advice and support to help parents talk about staying safe online. Visit NSPCC Online Safety.

Staying SMART Online

We particularly recommend the SMART rules from Childnet as a cornerstone of our e-safety education. These rules help children understand:

  • S: Safe - Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information to people online.
  • M: Meet - Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. If someone asks you to meet, tell an adult immediately.
  • A: Accepting - Accepting emails, messages, or opening files from people you don’t know can be dangerous – they may contain viruses or nasty messages.
  • R: Reliable - Someone online might lie about who they are, and information on the internet may not be true. Always check information with other reliable sources.
  • T: Tell - Tell a parent, carer, or a trusted adult if something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried.

By providing these resources and maintaining an open dialogue about online safety, we aim to ensure that our pupils can enjoy the benefits of the internet while staying safe. Thank you for partnering with us to protect our children in the digital world.

For more information on E-safety, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting with Miss Wakelin, our computing lead.
