Science

At Little Parndon Primary Academy, we are committed to providing a robust and engaging science education that ignites curiosity and fosters a lifelong love for discovery. Our science curriculum is designed to cultivate a deep understanding of scientific concepts and the natural world. We follow the White Rose Science Scheme, a comprehensive programme that aligns with national standards and ensures a well-rounded scientific education for our pupils.

Developing Scientific Skills

Our science curriculum places a strong emphasis on developing the skills of working scientifically. These skills are crucial for enabling students to think and work like scientists. The working scientifically skills are split into eight key areas:

  • Ask Questions: Encouraging curiosity and inquisitiveness about the world around them.
  • Plan: Teaching students how to design and plan scientific investigations.
  • Make Observations: Developing keen observational skills to notice details and changes.
  • Take Measurements: Learning to use tools and instruments accurately to gather data.
  • Gather, Record, and Classify Data: Collecting data systematically and organising it for analysis.
  • Present Findings: Communicating results effectively through charts, graphs, and reports.
  • Answer Questions and Make Conclusions: Drawing logical conclusions based on evidence.
  • Evaluate (KS2 only): Assessing the reliability and validity of their investigations and considering improvements.

A Hands-On Approach to Learning

Through the White Rose Science Scheme, our students engage in hands-on experiments and investigations that make learning tangible and exciting. They learn to apply their scientific skills in various contexts, from exploring the properties of materials to investigating ecosystems and understanding physical processes. This approach helps to solidify their understanding of theoretical concepts through practical application.

Preparing for the Future

By embedding these scientific skills and knowledge throughout our curriculum, we prepare our students not only for academic success but also for the challenges and opportunities of the future. We aim to nurture critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and informed citizens who appreciate the role of science in everyday life and are equipped to contribute to the scientific advancements of tomorrow.

At Little Parndon Primary Academy, our commitment to high-quality science education ensures that every child develops a strong foundation in scientific principles, skills, and curiosity that will serve them throughout their educational journey and beyond - shaping their future.

Please see below for the curriculum long-term overview. For more information on Science, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting with Mrs Green, our curriculum lead.
