Religious Education (R.E)

At Little Parndon Primary Academy, our Religious Education (R.E.) curriculum aims to nurture thoughtful, open-minded individuals who are respectful of diverse religions and worldviews. Our curriculum is designed to be relevant and engaging, preparing pupils for life in modern Britain by fostering a deep understanding of various belief systems.

Developing Understanding and Respect

Our R.E. curriculum encourages children to explore and understand different religious and non-religious worldviews. By engaging with challenging questions and making meaningful connections, students learn to appreciate perspectives that differ from their own. This process helps them reflect on their personal beliefs and assumptions, promoting respect and empathy towards others.

A Progressive and Inclusive Approach

Through a progressive curriculum, children build conceptual knowledge by studying religions and worldviews on local, national, and global scales. This approach enables them to make connections between different belief systems, develop critical thinking skills, and understand their own positionality in relation to their learning. By revisiting key ‘big questions’ and building on prior knowledge, pupils gain insight into how religions and worldviews shape lived experiences around the world. They also consider the societal impacts of these beliefs and have opportunities to reflect on their personal worldviews.

Kapow Primary’s R.E. Scheme

At Little Parndon, we follow Kapow Primary’s R.E. scheme of work, which aligns with government guidance. This guidance emphasises that R.E. must reflect that "the religious traditions in Great Britain are, in the main, Christian while taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain." The Kapow scheme ensures that pupils gain a comprehensive understanding of Christianity alongside other major religions, promoting a well-rounded and inclusive education.

Our commitment to high-quality Religious Education helps students at Little Parndon Primary Academy become knowledgeable, respectful, and thoughtful individuals, well-prepared for the diverse world in which they live.

Please see below for the long term overview for R.E. For how EYFS links into R.E., please see the EYFS curriculum page.

For more information on R.E., please contact the school office to arrange a meeting with Mrs Green, our curriculum lead.
