New ways to compete in sport
Posted: 27th November 2020Young people have found a new way to compete in sporting competitions during lockdown.
Pupils at Little Parndon Primary Academy traditionally take part in inter-school contests every Friday.
With Covid-19 restrictions meaning that is not now possible, new ways of competing have been established.
PE teacher Jeremias Odebode said: “PE has changed this year. There is extra cleaning of equipment after each lesson, pupils come into school on PE days wearing their kit and sports have become more skilled based.
“Friday would usually be a day of competitions, either along with other schools in Harlow or we would hold competitions within our fellow BMAT schools.
“Due to the times we face, competitions have been made available virtually.”
Despite the restrictions, pupils are experiencing a wide range of sporting activities, including cup stacking, dodgeball, archery, boccia, kurling, indoor athletics and dodgeball.
They have taken part in virtual cheerleading, gymnastics and indoor athletics competitions, with their efforts recorded and sent to be marked by even organisers.
Mr Odebode said: “Each competition we have taken part in has been a great experience. They have given children even more of a chance to try out a wider range of activities which will help them in the future
“By making the competitions more inclusive to all children, I have seen a higher rate of children taking part and performances being improved within PE.
“I will continue to bring sport to the children and make sure they all have a chance to shine.”
