Young Carers
Posted: 29th April 2021A day of action helped our school to identify young carers.
Pupils at Little Parndon Primary Academy supported Young Carers Action Day by wearing funky socks.
The day was used to raise awareness among pupils about what a young carer is, how to let the school know if they believe they have a carer role and the support available to those taking care of someone at home.
Georgina Jones, Young Carers school operational lead, said: “We took part in Young Carers Action Day to celebrate both the young carers we have in school and to show our support for young carers across the country.
“The day was very successful and, as a result, we had children come forward who we had not yet identified as young carers and we will now go on and refer them to the specialist support services available. We will also support them in school as needed.”
The school is looking to have regular meet-ups for its young carers to share their experiences and support each other.
Headteacher Mark Evans said: “Recently, my own children have become classified as young carers because of my wife’s health situation. I know first-hand how important it is for these children to get the support they need from school and how crucial the Young Carer programme is.
“We are very keen to get every child who needs the support recognised and provided for.”
